Jack Kennedy always said to me, Hedy, get involved. That’s the secret of life. Try everything. Join everything. Meet everybody. Hedy Lamarr

Flying into Delhi airport at 0630 hours from the UK with the choice of either a 7 hour wait for the next flight to Jaipur or getting involved with the Imperial Hotel overnight and it’s wonderful spa. Lemme think about that…are you with me? Since forever a fan of instant gratification I took the obvious path. September is still monsoon and the prices are off season so all very agreeable (kind of). The relief of walking into the jasmine scented cool 5 star luxury surroundings after the wall of humidity at Delhi airport plus an upgrade to a suite totally worked for me.

Trying hard not to Instagram the bejaysus out of everything I reluctantly put my iPhone away and surrendered to the massage table in the beautiful marble clad spa.

Only Indian royalty can get away with wearing a tiara over their turban and still be deemed respectably butch… he probably wrestled tigers wearing hot pink nail varnish.

Feeling calm and rested after my night of luxury and a couple poolside hours practising my noise tolerance  to crows, horns, general extreme traffic, road works, police whistles, bells, non specific shrieks, chanting and mooing, I can more or less say I’m ready for Jaipur.

I have fond memories of staying at the Imperial before the five star refurb. They had a vast cavernous restaurant called the Tavern (!) and one could also have dinner in their beautifully manicured gardens. Haven of calm in the centre of New Dehli.
