That’s not very nice is it? I’m feeling a tad more cuddlesome after my bank holiday visit to the glorious West Country eating the diet of a pregnant diary maid with gusto, plus my back’s a bit sore after dragging my luggage around for a change so BOOM I need to address my waistline sharpish, dog walking’s not going to cut it this month if I’m to consider wearing a bikini ever again.
Bacon, eggs, toast, scones (thanks Tanya), clotted cream, local charcuterie and cheeses, delicious octopus slow cooked with potatoes in Crugmeer, Cornwall (thank you Piers) then crab and champagne on my birthday at The Chapel, Bruton, salt & spice squid at The Porthminster Beach Cafe, St Ives (thank you Olivia and Reni) more champagne and sushi at The Magazine Restaurant, Hyde Park (thank you Louise) followed by recipes tested from a long list I’d been storing online during my travels. There’s no more exquisite self torture to be had when high and dry in Rajasthan salivating over veggie recipes and descriptions of fine wines while making up my dream shopping list for my first trip to Watirose, who I didn’t realise until yesterday stock the VERY moreish Assyrtiko wine from Santorini.. believe. You’ve got to try this at home too – I’ve virtually survived off this delicious anchovy and caper sauce from Diana Henry this summer over all veggies especially new poatotoes and asparagus.
Me food obsessed.. ?? Am stashing a Tom Parker-Bowles (I prop-styled his latest book about to launch in October) recipe for slow cooked shoulder of lamb with broad beans and fennel too.. SHUT UP!!.
Ok, moving on.. Here’s the coastline that absolutely does it for me, the font of all love of coastlines thereafter.. its the elemental thing again, rocks and water, it’s there in Folegandros (my favourite Greek Island) there at the headland in Goa next to the beach house I lived in last winter. Here is the coast at Treen and Porthgwarra, Cornwall as modelled by Reni and Daisy.
I hadn’t visited here for 4 years, a long time for me. My friend Olivia said if she were a doctor she would write me a out a prescription to live in Cornwall because no where else on this planet do I sleep so well. I’ve had a delicate relationship with sleep so this is major. West is best.
Back to my other West Country home from home at Steve’s house in Castle Cary (offical keeper of the O’Keefe wardrobe and “O’Keefe stuff inc”) it’s time to say goodbye to the summer so cruelly stolen from us in mid August and swap my summer wardrobe for Autumnal London assignations.
So long Elvis and Ruby my 4 legged compadres.. back to the city for me. We’re cooking up plans for a possible Hibiscus/Myhibi.com trip to the USA next year.. :))
